Sexual and reproductive health problems remain a leading cause of ill-health and death for women in childbearing age. Especially in developing countries, impoverished women and young people suffer disproportionately from unplanned pregnancies, gender-based violence, sexually transmitted infections (STI), HIV/AIDS, maternal death or disability and harmful traditional practices. Intensive efforts with a full range of partners, including civil society and affected populations, at national, bilateral and multilateral levels are needed to promote the development of a comprehensive health sector response to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and HIV/AIDS.
